MBA Work Officially Complete!

I was planning to take my MIS final exam on Sunday but since I finished my 2 papers early, I decided to buckle down and knock out my exam today (Friday, Dec. 3, 2004). Just finished it at around 11:30 p.m., barely within the 2 hour time limit, and submitted it.
:-)

Wow. That's it then!

21 INTENSE MONTHS OF SCHOOL WORK IS OVER!

A heck of a lot has happened in that 21 months.

  • The program I chose was an accelerated MBA, meaning much more time commitment that your typical part-time MBA.
  • I started school the same week I started a challenging, new job. Yikes.
  • Madeline was born a couple of months into my first quarter of school. Wow!
  • We bought our first house, did a bunch of renovations, and then moved during a school break.
  • I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and endured 2 neck surgeries and 1 radiation treatment in the midst of school and work. Don't care to repeat that again.
  • Attended two MBA residencies in Philadelphia and one in France. Incredibly intense but fun.

My gosh that's a heck of a list. I'm not quite sure how I did it in retrospect!

None of this would have been possible were it not for the incredible support of Katie and the rest of my family (on both sides). And the support and schedule flexibility from my manager at work has been great too.

It also should be said that without modern technology (broadband, laptops, email, IM, etc.) this would have been an entirely different and more difficult program. That kept me working while I was sick, traveling, etc. It is also cool that I had a hand in enabling one of those key tools (broadband) and that this came back to help support my educational experience so much.

What a great program at Drexel, with a great cohort of 10 other professionals, challenging and interesting coursework, and great professors. My cohort, "Tech 7 Cohort," was universally professional and will be great to network with in the future. And in mixed-cohort classes, every one of the other cohorts seemed to be as smart, savvy, professional, and dedicated to learning. Another facet of the program that added a great deal to the learning and networking experience was the three residencies: two in Philadelphia and the final one in France.

I applied for my degree earlier in the week. I'm guessing I'll officially have the degree sometime early next year. The official conferral date on the degree will be December 18, 2004.

So there it is...
Program started March 20, 2002.
Coursework completed on December 3, 2004.
Degree to be conferred on December 18, 2004.

Drexel University
LeBow College of Business

Masters in Business & Adminstration
Techno MBA Program

The Techno MBA curriculum focuses on the application of technology to management and management in high-tech industries, which is what made it a PERFECT match for me. I have to agree with US News & World Report that this is a top program -- it certainly seemed so to me. And I've already begun applying what I've learned at work, which is exciting and just reinforces my belief that I made a great investment.

This calls for a celebration!! :-)

MBA Almost Done!!

I've been remiss in not posting recent pictures on the blog. The final weeks of my final semester at school have been busy. I should be done by the end of this weekend! After 21 very intense months, there is just one more exam to take!!!!

I just finished and turned in my last two big papers:

* MIS 630 - An Application of Decision Support Systems and Business Intelligence for Voice Over IP Telephony Network Operations in Broadband Companies

* MGMT 780 - Strategizing in Time: Strategic Analysis of and Plan for Openwave Systems
