Words To Live By

PERSISTENCE

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common that unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; un-rewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

-- Calvin Coolidge, 1872

Kitchen Floor Installation Started

The big news is that the kitchen floor is finally going to be installed. The supplier in NJ was out of stock and had to order more cork flooring from Canada, which took some time. A finish coat goes on the wet bed today and the cork goes down tomorrow. That is followed by 3 coats of polyurethane. It should be dry by the end of the weekend! :-)

Crimpers In Kabul, Afghanistan

The husband of a friend from my MBA program is over in Kabul with the 54th Signal Battalion. They're networking guys, wiring up the embassy, government offices and other military locations. However, they're doing this important work without the benefit of enough tools. So I took a collection at work and will be sending them a package this weekend with:
* 200 RJ-45 connectors
* 5 RJ-11/RJ-45 cable crimpers
* 2 punch down tools
* Backlit, ruggedized multimeter

I am hoping to shake loose some other gear from a few companies, such as a cable tester (like a Fluke), a fiber tester and a PC/Patch cable checker. If you know of anyone that can help obtain this stuff, please contact me.

While the donation is a relatively small one, if it helps this team get their job done a bit more quickly and easily, then it's worth it. They're doing an important job over there for all of us.

Move Is Complete, Network Up

The move went well, except for the stitches in my knee. And the network (email, web server) is back online. Now, the long process of unpacking begins. Still no kitchen floor, and thus, no appliances. :-(
